Outstanding undergraduate students from all over the world can receive one-semester scholarships through the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (also known as the Global UGRAD Program) for non-degree full-time study mixed with volunteer work, career development, and cultural enrichment.

The Global UGRAD Program is managed by two organizations on behalf of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Program and geographic application deadlines change. Eligibility

The Global Undergraduate Exchange Program offers university students competitive non-degree undergraduate study abroad opportunities in the US.

Anyone who is/has the following qualifies for the global undergraduate exchange program:

  • at least 18 years old;
    a national of a nation that participates in UGRAD who resides there right now;
  • has at least one semester left at their home university at the conclusion of the UGRAD programme and is enrolled as an undergraduate in good standing at any authorised university, whether it is public or private;
  • completed secondary school in their place of origin;
  • a strong command of both written and spoken English (some finalists may be able to take English language instruction);
  • able to start their studies in the US in January 2022 or August 2021 (chosen participants cannot postpone their start date);
  • capable of obtaining and maintaining the J-1 US student exchange visa necessary for the program;
  • permission from a doctor to take part in the program;
  • committed to leaving the program and going back to their own country.
